My
Clients
Although women have always been part of my life
and clientele, today most of my clients are men. I'm honored at
their diversity in age, sexual orientation, and body type. I'm indebted to my
partners over the years who've helped me refine my touch on their willing
muscles, and who waited patiently as I sometimes cared for others instead of
them.
A person's personal and professional life
generate unique tensions. Whether you're an executive, artist, tradesman,
waiter, flight attendant, musician, or medical pro or unemployed -- you have
your own specific physical and emotional reasons for seeking a good massage.
Added
variables include diet, weight and percentage of muscle and body fat. A client's
needs are further complicated by travel, relationships, emotions, recent events,
physical and mental self-image, comfort with nudity and uncertainty about sexual
overtones of massage. I'll do my best to honor your issues and wishes.
Occasionally I refer clients elsewhere when I
sense they require more assistance than I can offer for their weight, medical,
psychosocial or sexual needs. Certainly there's no charge for time spent talking
prior to or after a massage. And in those situations where it becomes
apparent that we may not be a good match for each other, I always attempt to end
the introduction with positive energy and outlook.
My clients vary widely, but you may share one or more of these
traits:
physically fit,
twinks,
massage virgins,
HIV-positives,
students,
seniors,
tweakers,
twelve-steppers,
circuit-boys,
bodybuilders and athletes,
dancers,
couples, and men who are dealing with
being closeted,
coming-out, married/divorced or
grief and loss issues.
Physically Fit
I especially appreciate clients who take care of themselves
physically through weightlifting, aerobics, running, yoga, spinning or other
physical activity. Like a pianist who enjoys playing a fine piano, it's a joy
for me to work on men who have taken care of themselves with reasonable diet and
regular exercise. You don't have to be a musclehead (although I particularly
enjoy them) to make the sessions a joy for each of us. It's simply that a man
who hits the gym, track or yoga class regularly probably has muscles that are easier
for me to find and massage.
Don't be self-conscious if you're
carrying some extra weight or haven't kept your workout resolutions.
You're still very welcome in my care. But, if you're in
excess of 300 pounds, I trust you won't be offended if I redirect you to a
therapist specially trained to handle those with extra girth.

Twinks
Your self-image may tell you you're too young or muscularly undeveloped
for massage. Some of my most treasured friends are a third my age and size.
Whether gangly or an Abercrombie boy, I appreciate your situation and
perspective. A streamlined Bel Ami body has its own natural beauty and
it's a great frame on which to hang muscles in the times ahead. Don't be
intimidated or priced out of getting a massage. The experience will reassure and
inspire you.

Massage Virgins
Many of my clients have entrusted themselves to me for their first
massage in life. If you've never had a massage before, I want you to
treat yourself, then return to me or another masseur. I recognize that
the experience you have with me will stay with you for a long time and
will affect your opinion toward touch-therapy. So I want this to
be a good and positive session for you. Most often men, younger or
older, are worried that they'll get an erection. Yes, you probably will.
And that's good. It means you're alive and very well. I consider it a
natural compliment, not something to that should trouble you. We'll
neither dwell on it nor ignore it. And, you don't have to worry about
how you measure up to me in any way. That's part of the respect we
share for each other, regardless of size or age. It's your maiden
voyages into touch; enjoy the experience.

HIV
Clients who are HIV-positive deeply feel the multitude of ways the virus
affects body, mind and soul. Coping with the psychological, physical,
social and economic impact of having and treating HIV is often
overwhelming. On top of this, the call to safer-sex adds to an
already-complicated personal life. Massage can help maintain the
self-esteem and safe-sex negotiation skills essential to a longer,
healthier life. Sometimes guys come for a massage to deal with the
stress of awaiting test results. Other times they'll seek out my touch
cope with or celebrate long-term survival with HIV.

Closeted or Coming Out
While most of my clients are comfortable being gay, bisexual or
straight, many are still sorting things out. Some are married,
often with children. Some are divorced, some are in long-term
relationships, some have never had a lover. Often their self-description
code is "must be discrete." Relax. I know the code. Exploring one's
sexuality and orientation is a vulnerable and precious process
that massage can make a bit easier. Plus, nobody wants to risk getting a sexually transmitted disease.
I'm neither a sex surrogate nor a shrink, but I may be able to help you
feel better in your own skin or next to someone else's. While
we're at it, I can also answer questions you might have about safer-sex
and techniques that may be unfamiliar to you.

Students
A good chunk of my clients are students. Massage is a great way for them
to get some stress-relief from classes while getting to better understand a
man's body, theirs and mine. For students in their teens and twenties, sometimes
these sessions are an exercise in sexual exploration. With all my clients I work
hard to recognize that sexual orientation covers a complex range of issues and
experiences and isn't an issue that should get in the way in the massage room.
Translation? It doesn't matter if you've decided whether you're straight or gay
or bisexual. You're welcome and safe on my table. And if your budget really
doesn't allow the full cost of a massage, just say so when you call and we'll
figure out a time of day and session length that you can afford.

Seniors
In our age-conscious times, we may feel less-valuable and less-wanted as
we age. Massage can help suspend time and even turn back the clock a
bit. My oldest client is 94. Perhaps when I'm that age I'll be still
getting backrubs from a young stud in his 60's. Men about my age and older
appreciate my understanding of their issues and my acceptance of them.
If you need a break with the rate, just say so.
If you're older but got the bucks, I need them too.

Tweakers
The need for speed has many stages. When Tina (crystal meth) moves out, stress and
re-learning moves in. Much of it involves a quest for intimacy and
safe-sex in healthier relationships and environments. Once you've
used meth, it's often difficult to learn how to enjoy sex and intimacy
without it. Once you've
caught up on your sleep and begun to recover, give a call. We'll stretch
your resources, then help each other shower up and stay clean.

Twelve Steppers
Many of my regulars attend a 12-step program for recovery from addiction
to alcohol, substances or sex. Sensual, non-sexual massage provides
physical contact without the complexities of a relationship that might
compromise a recovery program. Whether you're an old-timer or
newly-sober and clean, my arms are a place where you can feel safe and
serene, knowing that I've also been there and done that. We'll encourage
each other, one day at a time.

Circuit Boys
Also known as Circuit Men and Circuit Queens, we travel
far to dance at huge fundraising marathons collectively called The
Circuit. Our love of music and rhythm draws us together with a
few thousand of our nearest and dearest friends. It's simultaneously
mesmerizing, mystical and messy. Many Circuit Boys are fluent in Kbonics
and Tweakenese while others defy gravity through old-fashioned rest and
nourishment. If you appreciate flesh, flagging, and
fellowship --- your dancing spirit demands a massage.

Bodybuilders and
Athletes
OK, let me simply say it: I love working on bodybuilders of all weights
and sizes. True, I'm in
awe of weightlifters who can bench hundreds of pounds. But I hold even
higher admiration is for guys who sculpt themselves with flexible
balance and proportion. A good many of my regular clients have
dedicated years to perfecting themselves by lifting iron. Lifting their
limbs and spirits is my honor.
I'm a devotee of the body in motion and at rest.
Preferring individual sports to team action, I've photographed athletes from at
regional competitions and at two international Olympics. I'm not a
sports-therapist but if you're an athlete, I can give your body a unique regimen
of well-focused treatment and the respect you deserve for your hard work
(back to list)
Dancers
Over time I've developed great friendships with members of various dance
companies. In exchange for working on their feet and muscles, I
got great seats and a lifetime of love from them and for them.
Recognizing that dancers are usually paid far too little for all the
hours they train and perform, I work hard to accommodate the schedules
and budgets of these angels who make muscles fly.

Grief and Loss Issues
If you've suffered a substantial loss --- particularly the death
of a family member, loved one, significant other or lifetime pet ---
touch therapy can be especially meaningful. Having suffered more than my
share of loss, perhaps the lesson I've learned is to help myself and
others cope with grief through sharing and loving physical contact.

Couples
One of the blessings of being a tall guy with big hands is that I can
capably work on two people at once. First, we focus on each individual
with the observance and assistance of the partner. Then, I
simultaneously mirror my touch between each partner as they're
positioned side-by-side, head-to-head, toe-to-toe, or resting atop each
other. The session is usually arranged as a gift from one partner to the
other and the fees are adjusted accordingly. Couples are left with new
appreciation of each other and new techniques to apply long after I'm
gone.
